When the air conditioner is on, the fan turns on, but the room is still hot. This is not an accident. This is a clear signal that the air conditioning system is malfunctioning. Especially in conditions where the ambient temperature can exceed 45 °C, any little thing turns into a tangible problem. And the longer you ignore such signs, the more the whole system suffers.

Airflow, Filters, And Hidden Restrictions

It’s worth starting with the simplest, but critically important, air filter. A dirty filter literally suffocates the system. Dust, sand, and small debris block the air flow, disrupt air circulation, and cause the air conditioner to wear out. As a result, the cooling of the air becomes weak, and sometimes disappears completely.

If the airflow is poor, the evaporation coil may freeze. Yes, it is freezing in the heat. Ice blocks the flow, and instead of coolness, warm air appears from the ventilation. In dusty conditions, checking the filter every 3-4 weeks is not a recommendation, but a necessity. Replacing or cleaning every 1-2 months often solves the problem without complicated diagnosis.

Do not forget about the ventilation holes. Closed vents or furniture in front of them create local stagnation points. The air simply does not circulate, and the cooling efficiency decreases, even if the system is technically sound, even when compared to alternatives like a portable air conditioner that rely on unobstructed airflow.

Refrigerant, Compressor And Cooling Cycle

Now about more serious things. The refrigerant is the basis of heat exchange. The cooling cycle does not work without it. If the level drops due to a leak, the air conditioning system continues to work, but the temperature does not decrease. There is an illusion of activity, but without result.

The signs are obvious if you know where to look. Weak air flow, ice on the tubes, strange sounds. All this points to a problem with the refrigerator. And here it is important to understand that self-repair is impossible. Mistakes cause damage to the compressor, and this is already expensive.

The compressor generally plays a key role. It ensures the movement of the refrigerant and supports the entire cycle. If it fails, the cooling disappears completely. Sometimes the system turns on, but it works in vain. This is especially noticeable at high temperatures, when the load on the equipment is maximum.

Outdoor Unit, Overheating And Environmental Influences

The outdoor unit is often underestimated. But in vain. It is he who is responsible for heat dissipation. If the condenser is dirty, covered with dust, or surrounded by debris, the heat does not escape. As a result, the air conditioner starts to overheat and loses its effectiveness.

It is important to follow a simple rule: at least 60 cm of free space around the block. This is not a formality, but a condition for normal work. Even partial overlap impairs heat transfer. Add to this the high ambient temperature. At 45°C and above, the system is operating at its limit. Any malfunction increases. Dust, humidity, pollution all this accelerates equipment wear and reduces energy efficiency.

Drainage should not be ignored either. Clogging of the drainage line leads to condensation accumulation. Water accumulates, protective mechanisms are triggered, and cooling is turned off. In conditions of high humidity, this happens more often than it seems.

The service life of an air conditioner is usually 10-15 years. But after the first year, efficiency may decrease by about 7%, then by 5%, and then by about 2% annually. This is a gradual process that is rarely noticed right away.

Therefore, regular maintenance is not a formality. This is a way to maintain system performance. Checking filters, diagnosing the thermostat, monitoring the condition of the capacitor and electrical components all this directly affects the result. And if the air conditioner has stopped cooling, the reason almost always lies on the surface. The only question is how quickly you’ll notice it and fix it.
